Seeing Is Believing

The new year is around the corner, can you believe it?

2019 has been a wild ride for sure with so many notable firsts in history for women. I’m feeling particularly inspired by the recent victory of Miss Universe, Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa. Her crowning marks the 5th woman of color to be crowned in all 5 of America’s top beauty pageants.

This is truly history in the making and it’s opening up the doors for our children to see themselves winning in highly visible roles which hasn’t been the case until now. Five black women crushing the pageant circuit within the past 15 months? Who’d a thought? The indelible mark is that our leaders of tomorrow are seeing and believing that it’s possible for them without a doubt because it really did happen.

Beliefs are very interesting to study especially when we, as parents, might be wondering how we can help to shape the precious minds of our children. This is why I’m so passionate about the work I do and “Toddlewood” in particular. According to Psychology Today, in order for the brain to conserve energy, it looks at previous situations to determine patterns and then will generate predictions for future outcomes. What’s so ironic though is that the article confirms that regardless of what is predictable, people are more likely to trust what they see even if it defies what’s logical! Hence the old adage “seeing is believing” still holds true.

I love it when science backs me up. To commemorate this pivotal time in history and to continue my passion of creating positive visual images of what’s possible for our youth, I’ve launched a “Historical Casting Call” to discover the next 5 Toddlewood Pagent Models:

Miss Universe, Miss Teen, Miss World, Miss America and Miss USA!

I can’t wait to meet them, will it be someone you know? Please share this link with all the mini-powerhouse actors and models who might be a great fit for this.

If seeing is believing and you are one of the most important role models in your child’s world, what will you do to grow your own vision in 2020? Looking forward to seeing more of you in the next decade!
